RACE TO ZERO

Los Angeles’ east-downtown neighbourhood, Boyle Heights, is a predominantly Latino community where the medium income falls well below the national average. California’s forward-thinking attitude to environmental protection and the issues around rising inner-city temperatures presents an opportunity to enhance and protect a  community at risk from environmental and economic factors.  The proposed modules are designed with the future in mind. A structural steel skeleton allows all load-bearing elements of the design to be hosted within the exterior prefabricated walls of the building, allowing maximum flexibility approach means that residents are free to adapt their homes as they see fit without worrying about the costly structural problems that they would usually encounter, stimulating a multi generational dynamic in the community where families can grow and thrive together.​​​​​​​
